Welcome to the world of Joshua Smoot—the bastard son of Treasure Island’s John Flint. From the first page of John Flint’s Bastard to the last, you will experience the full spectrum of love versus hate, loyalty versus betrayal, freedom versus slavery, and the extremes of mankind’s goodness and evil toward one another.
The old pirate Captain John Flint—the evil benefactor of Savannah—finally spawns a man-child by one of his concubines. To fulfill the last wish of the lad’s mother, Flint promises to raise Joshua as a gentleman rather than make him a pirate, and to accomplish this task, he delivers the eight-year-old lad to the Wakehurst Place Estate in southern England where Joshua’s stubborn spirit forces him into an ultimatum that tests his will and eventually earns him two King’s warrants for his head.

Four hundred nautical miles remained on Captain Bob’s singlehanded passage from Mauritius to South Africa when maritime duty called making those the most difficult sea miles ever sailed over the prior twenty-six years. He delayed the pleasures of a safe harbour and risked his yacht and life to save a fellow mariner from peril at sea.
This autobiographic nautical adventure recounts the foundation for the events of those days south of Madagascar by reviewing sailing skills gained and confidence acquired while sailing to the Channel Islands off the California coast, yacht club racing earning boat of the year honors, Great Lakes Singlehanded Society competition, redesigning a custom steel sloop, attending a demanding maritime school to earn a coveted international professional mariners license, skippering charter boats, and instructing sailing classes in St. Petersburg, Florida.

If you are like me, you read Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island several times as a child, and have wondered what happened to Long John Silver, Benn Gunn, and The Treasure of Dead Man’s Chest. You now hold in your hands the third novel in the Of Chains and Slavery trilogy, which answers those nagging questions. True to his nature, Long John Silver was able to lead, coerce, and manipulate many of the men who fought the American Revolution to unknowingly do his bidding, even General George Washington and John Paul Jones—all during a twenty-month period in which that famous young naval hero disappeared from the history books.

UNDER THE TRADE WIND SKY: Caribbean Adventures and Other Tales of the Sea

Under the Trade Wind Sky is a compilation of tales about growing up and coming of age in one of the most unique ways imaginable, as a sailor on some of the most celebrated sailing yachts of all time. Robert Louis (Lou) Boudreau first went to sea when he was six months old aboard the famous 98-foot schooner Yankee. His father owned and sailed the schooner in the beautiful Bras d’Or Lakes of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. When Lou was a year old the Boudreaus left Canada and voyaged south to warmer climes. Sailing out of Miami, Florida, they eventually ran their charter cruises in the West Indies. Lou spent his early childhood on the island of St. Lucia, sailing the Caribbean aboard such vessels as the 100-foot schooner Doubloon and the 98-foot Howard Chappelle-designed Baltimore clipper Caribee, both owned by his father. In fact, in November of 2022, Lou’s father, Capt. Walter Boudreau, was inducted posthumously into the Charter Yacht Brokers Association Hall of Fame for his lifetime achievements in the charter industry.

Cape Horn Birthday documents the extraordinary non-stop round-the-world journey of a lone sailor and his thirty-two-foot sloop. GPS did not exist when Peter Freeman set sail from Victoria, British Columbia, in 1984. Peter navigated the old-fashioned way, with a compass, a sextant, books of tables, and his wits. Along the way, he had to rebuild the self-steering rudder, repair torn sails, and fix broken gear.
